Cookie Notice
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small piece of information that a website puts on a hard drive so that it can remember information about a user at a later date.
2. Types of cookies
There are different types of cookies. Cookies can be subdivided according to their function, their origin and their lifespan.
When having a look at the function of cookies, the following types of cookies can be distinguished:
(i) Indispensable or strictly necessary cookies are cookies that are necessary in order for a website to function correctly, for example, to be able to make the required connections and to ensure a secure identity check. These cookies can be placed by us without your prior consent.
(ii) Functional cookies are cookies that ensure our website provides the functionalities you requested. They keep information about your choices and preferences on our website (for example, cookies for remembering login or registration, your language preference, products in your shopping cart). These cookies are first-party cookies and can be placed by use without your prior consent.
(iii) Non-functional cookies are cookies that can be placed for statistical, social, targeting and commercial purposes. They have nothing to do with the purely technical support of the website. Non-functional cookies can be first-party or third-party cookies. These cookies require your prior opt-in consent before they can be placed.
• Cookies with statistical purposes allow, among other things, to check which pages of the website you visit, where your computer is located, etc.;
• Cookies with social purposes make it possible for the user to share the content of the visited website directly with others via social media;
• Targeting cookies allow you to build a profile based on your surfing behaviour so that the ads displayed are tailored to your interests;
• Commercial cookies keep track of how many and which advertisements were shown to a user.
When having a look at the origin of cookies, the following types of cookies can be distinguished:
(i) First-party cookies are cookies placed by us that ensure that our website functions properly. This increases the quality of our services.
(ii) Third-party cookies are cookies that are placed by a domain name other than that of our website. If a user visits our website and a third party places a cookie through our website, then this is a third-party cookie. For more information on cookies placed by third parties we kindly invite you to have a look at the privacy and cookie statements provided by these third parties on their respective websites. Please note that we do noy have any influence on the content of those statements or on the content of the cookies of these third parties.
When having a look at the lifespan of the cookies, the following types of cookies can be distinguished:
(i) Persistent cookies: These cookies remain on the user's device for the duration determined in the cookie. They are activated each time the user visits the website that placed the cookie (for example, cookies placed by social media such as Facebook, Google Analytics, etc.). Most non-functional cookies are permanent cookies.
(ii) Session cookies: These cookies allow us to simplify and link a user's actions during a browser session. A browser session starts when a user opens the browser screen and ends when they close the browser screen. Session cookies are placed temporarily. As soon as you close the browser, all session cookies are deleted. Most functional cookies are session cookies.
3. How can you control the use of cookies?
You can control and/or delete cookies as you wish. You can also delete all cookies that are already on your computer and you can set most browsers to prevent them from being placed. If you do this, however, you may have to manually adjust some preferences every time you visit our websites and some services and functionalities may not work.
The relevant settings to control or delete cookies can usually be found in the 'Options' or 'Preferences' menu of your web browser. You can also adjust your settings so that your browser rejects all cookies or all third-party cookies. In order to better understand these settings, the following links may be useful. If not, you can also consult the "Help" function in your web browser for more details.
